What this covers
Muckraker is an Android app that helps you log live No-Limit Hold’em home games and suggests your move. It’s made by Nishchay, an independent developer in India (“we”, “us”).
This policy covers the Muckraker app and this website. It doesn’t cover the services the app talks to, which have their own policies, but we say below exactly what we send them.
What stays on your phone
Muckraker keeps its data in the app’s private storage on your device:
- Your roster: the names you give the players you play with.
- Every game’s log: seats, blinds, buy-ins, rebuys, every action, the cards you saw, and corrections.
- Player reads: the type estimates for each player, and the evidence behind them.
- The advice log: what was sent to the advice model and what came back, so you can see why it said what it said.
None of it needs an account. The app asks for no access to your contacts, location, camera or microphone.
What goes to the advice model
The advice comes from a decision model run for us by TypeSafe. The app sends it a request at two moments:
When the action is on you
The facts of the hand so far: blinds, stacks, positions, every action, the board and your two cards. The app’s own maths: the pot, your equity and the bet sizes in rupees. Your goal and strategy mode. And, for each opponent in the hand, their roster name, the evidence about how they play, and their type.
After each hand
For every player who was dealt in: their roster name and the evidence from that hand, so the model can estimate their type.
You’re never named: the model knows you only as “hero”. We suggest nicknames in your roster if your friends would rather not be named at all.
Requests travel over HTTPS through a small relay we run, so the app never holds the model’s key.
What TypeSafe does with a request is governed by its own terms.
Backup, if you turn it on
Backup is off until you sign in and switch it on. Then the app copies your game logs, roster, player reads and the advice log to a database we run on Supabase, so you can restore everything on a new phone.
Your backup is tied to your sign-in, and nobody else’s app can read it. We don’t look at it, except to keep the service running or when you ask us to.
The people at your table
Muckraker records how other people play, under names you choose. That’s only fair when they know. Tell the table the app is on, and use names they’re happy with.
If someone asks to be taken out, delete them from your roster. Their name goes, past games show “Removed player”, and their type is shown nowhere.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Its fonts are served from the site itself, not a third party. Like any website, the host keeps standard server logs, such as your IP address and browser, to keep the site running.
Downloading the app
The APK is published on GitHub Releases. When you download it, GitHub handles that request under the GitHub Privacy Statement. We don’t learn who downloaded it.
What we never do
- Sell, rent or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- Show ads, or put analytics or tracking code in the app.
- Touch money. Every rupee in the app is a record you typed in.
How long things are kept
On your phone: until you delete it, or uninstall the app. In backup: until you delete your backup.
Your choices
- Use the app without a connection. Logging never needs one; only the advice does.
- Leave backup off, or turn it off at any time.
- Delete a player from your roster.
- Uninstall the app to remove everything on the phone.
To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, see Contact.
Security
Your data sits in the app’s private storage, and everything it sends goes over HTTPS. The public app carries no secret keys: the advice model is reached through our relay, and backup needs your own sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, so if you find a problem, please tell us.
Age
Muckraker is for adults, 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect anything from anyone younger.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change matters, such as something new leaving your phone, we’ll say so on the front page too.
Contact
We’re still setting up a place to write to us. It will be listed here when the first public edition goes out.
